My Latest Vintage Sewing & Crochet Supplies Haul

One thing I don’t tend to share on the blog is the random vintage sewing and crochet bits and pieces I pick up on my travels. Whenever I go to vintage fairs, flea markets or antique shops they’re always on my radar and I’ll spend hours rummaging through stack of boxes and digging under tables to see what I can find. Unfortunately these treasures aren’t always easy to photograph, so making a video about them is a great alternative way to be able to share them with you all.

Today’s haul is from a couple of weeks ago when I went to one of my favourite vintage fairs, The Vintage Bazaar and includes a vintage sewing pattern nerd moment and a rather special 1930s crochet pattern book. I hope you enjoy it and, as always, thanks for watching!

  1. Hi Vintage Gal i loved all the little things u picked up at the vintage bazaar i have a few of the cotton reels that u showed as well have been trying to get more but haven’t found any more

    • Thank you Alice! I don’t often see this type of cotton reel around, which is probably why they can be so expensive sometimes, but I’ve been meaning to get some for a while. They’re just great sewing knick knacks to have, aren’t they? xx

  2. Hey, Cate,

Thanks for sharing your fabulous haul!!
Is that a Hexigon sewing machine behind you in your video?? I have one of those. Do you have any info on yours?

  3. Hi Cate

Re Margo Durrell’s bikini: It’s from A knitting book, (1945) by Jane Kloster. I have it at home and it looks very easy to knit up. Possibly a smidgen late, but clothes were expected to last back then… 😉

    • Oh, that’s interesting to know. I wonder if the costume department had someone knit it for them for the show or whether it’s an original. Thanks for the info! xx

  4. Yay! A new video!!! I loved seeing all the gorgeous vintage bits and bobs you picked up and I’m so happy that you made another video. 🙂 <3

    • Aw, thank you Emily! It’s so lovely to hear you enjoy my videos xx

  5. Oh, I loved seeing all the sewing and crocheting things you found! I do have a soft spot for buttons, and I too love rummaging through boxes of them. The crocheting book is fabulous, love the Star Trek one 😉 xxx

    • Thank you Ann! You can’t beat a good rummage for old vintage buttons. You just never know when you might need them and getting them for a bargain makes it even better! xx

  6. Looks like you have some great flea markets near you! There was an antique mall where I used to live with one vendor who had lots of vintage knitting and sewing patterns, buttons, trims etc. Sadly I haven’t found anything like that where I live now. I did recently get a whole bag of vintage self cover buckles on eBay for about $4!

    • Where I live it’s pretty void of anything vintage or antique related but there are plenty of really good markets and shops if you drive for about an hour in every direction. There’s still loads I haven’t explored which means there’s loads more to discover! eBay is always good for buttons and buckles though, I do buy from there occasionally. xx

  7. You can never have too many vintage buttons, and that looks like a great haul! I love the knitting and crochet patterns. According to the Commercial Pattern Archive (https://copa.apps.uri.edu/), your top pattern dates from 1973 – I’m looking forward to seeing it made up. xx

    • Oh, thank you for that! It didn’t even dawn on me to look online. xx
