One of my projects for the Christmas holidays was moving the blog over from a free WordPress site to a paid one. And when I say paid, it really is the barest minimum! The reason I wanted to do this is because I like to have complete control over what I’m doing when it comes to websites. In my other life, i.e. the 9 to 5 grind, I work for an ecommerce company and a big part of my job is focused behind the scenes, making sure everything is being used to its full potential. Because the free version of WordPress restricts you on a lot of things it bugged the hell out of me, so, I decided to bite the bullet and move.
The main thing you will notice, of course, is the design. Ooo, fancy! The old one was thrown together in five minutes and I was never very happy with the colours (which I couldn’t change). I’d always visualised the blog being red, white and black with a stylised logo, so I set to work. I actually designed it on the software we use at work but then picked the closest theme I could find on WordPress and made my adjustments. I’ve still got a lot to do and there may be some other changes to come but I’m happy with it for now. Next it’s on to the behind the scenes stuff that I can really get my teeth into!
If you follow the blog via WordPress.com you may need to add it again to the ‘Blogs I Follow’ section to make sure you don’t miss any of the posts on the new site. I’ve pushed the button and I’m patiently waiting for the changeover to happen as it can take up to 48 hours to propagate across all the world’s servers. Depending on how quickly your internet service provider picks up the change you may be viewing it before me so, now you can see it, please let me what do you think. I’ve tried to go through it as much as I can and fix any issues but I’d be grateful if you would let me know if you spot anything. Ta xx
